Joseph A. Matteliano, Esq.

Joseph A. Matteliano, Esq.

Of Counsel, Buffalo

Joseph Matteliano has decades of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer in numerous areas of the law. After serving as the Deputy Chief of the Appeals Bureau in the Erie County District Attorney’s Office early in his career, Mr. Matteliano began and continues to represent many insurance carriers, hospitals, municipalities, public authorities, and corporations in a wide variety of tort and business litigation. In addition to trying cases in state and Federal courts, Mr. Matteliano has argued appeals in the New York State Appellate Division, the New York Court of Appeals, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Matteliano has also represented plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death cases throughout his career. He has obtained multi-million-dollar settlements for the estates of a young carpenter who drowned, a pedestrian who was struck by a public bus, and a young boy who lost most of both arms from electrical burns, as well as clients who sustained traumatic brain injuries in vehicular accidents.

As a result of Mr. Matteliano’ s diverse legal background, he has been asked to serve as a sole arbitrator as well as the “neutral” arbitrator on three-member panels. By virtue of his knowledge of the law and the ability to fairly, and impartially, evaluate damages, Mr. Matteliano is available for in-person and remote mediations.

Mr. Matteliano is a former member of the board of the Bar Association of Erie County and served on its Judiciary Committee. He is in his second term as a member the Grievance Committee for the Eighth Judicial District at the request of the Hon. Gerald J. Whelan, Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department.
