Sam Vulcano and Brian Sutter attend the 53rd annual Meeting of Invited Attorneys in Boston. The conference focused on current legal issues facing design professionals. Sam and Brian concentrate their practices on the representation of architects and engineers. 
Managing Partner, Sam Vulcano, spoke to members of Barton and Loguidice, D.P.C. at a "Lunch and Learn" on May 14, 2014, on the topic of Ethics in Design/Build Contracts.  Sam has over 30 years of experience representing design professionals. 
The Sugarman Law Firm had the honor of hosting a Central New York Women's Bar Association (CNYWBA) fundraising event on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014.  Ann Marie Giannino-Otis, founder of “Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer”, shared her story and community outreach efforts.  The ticket proceeds were donated to Cancer Connects–Chasing Stupid Dumb Cancer.  All who attended were inspired by Ann Marie’s story!    For more information about the organization visit www.stupiddumbbreastcancer.com  
Partners for Education and Business, Inc. (PEB) has chosen the Sugarman Law Firm, LLP to receive an award at their Annual Awards and 20th Anniversary Celebration on May, 29th. Sugarman was chosen based upon their support of career exploration activities through job shadowing and exhibiting at the Law Day Career Fair. Partner, Kevin Van Duser chairs New York State Bar Association's CLE "Advanced Insurance Coverage: Emerging Issues, Developments and Strategy" on May 2, 2014 in Syracuse, New York. 
Sugarman Law Firm's Managing Partner, Sam Vulcano, in collaboration with RLI Insurance, presented a "webinar" for Consulting Professionals.  The presentation focused understanding the standard of care and the potential impact of contract provisions upon it. Several decisions of courts from various States were discussed in order to illustrate the concept of standard of care and the potential pitfalls of modifying it contractually.  Limitations of Liability and Indemnification clauses were also reviewed.
Sam Vulcano, Sugarman's managing partner, spoke at King + King Architects. The topics included "Contract Clauses in Action" a survey of the contract provisions most critical in design professional contracts and a discussion of document retention policies and issues.
Sugarman Participates in Law Week Career Fair
Partner, Kevin Van Duser and Paralegal, Heather Berry participated in a Law Week Career Fair at Nottingham High School on April 15, 2014.  The second annual event was sponsored by the Onondaga County Bar Association in partnership with Partners for Education & Business.  The fair provided an opportunity for hundreds of high school students to learn about careers in law-related fields. 
Sam Vulcano spoke at two of Rochester's prominent architectural and engineering firms as part of the firm's in-house continuing education programs. The presentations at LaBella Associates and Clark-Patterson focused on the critical issues that can arise when inconsistencies exist between the primary design professional's contracts with the project owner and its subconsultants.
Partner, Paul Mullin, successfully received a no cause of action verdict from a New York Supreme Court (Onondaga County) jury on, April 3, 2014.  Mr. Mullin represented a physician who was alleged to have failed to properly investigate a patient's symptoms for a bowel perforation after a surgery.  After a two week trial, the jury unanimously rejected the plaintiff's theory and determined that the physician was not negligent.

On Thursday, March 6, 2014, the members of the Sugarman Law Firm Real Estate Department (Bruce Poushter, Shelby Redmond, Bridget McConnell, Yvonne Klaister and Michelle Andrews) showed their support with a booth at the annual GSAR (Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors) Hats off to you Associate’s Day at the OnCenter. The theme of this year’s event was the roaring twenties. The SLF booth highlighted our founder, David Sugarman, by displaying published newspaper articles of his featured cases from 1924-1929.
The Obama Administration has delayed the federal requirement for mid-size employers (50-99 employees) to provide health insurance to employees. Mid-size employers will not have to comply until 2016. Also, the Administration backed off the full implementation for larger employers. Employers with 100 or more employees will need to offer coverage to 70 percent of full-time employees in 2015 and 95 percent in 2016 or they will be subject to tax penalties. Sabor Latino Radio Appearance
Rita Paniagua (right), the Executive Director of the Spanish Action League of Onondaga County, interviewed partner Kevin Van Duser and Maria Rivera on Saturday February 15th on POWER 620AM during the Spanish Action League's radio show "Sabor Latino". The show is held every Saturday from 5pm - 7pm at the Clear Channel Radio station in downtown Syracuse.
