Matthew D. Gumaer, a Partner since 2004, defends claims against architects, engineers, surveyors, attorneys and other professionals. He has extensive experience advising clients involved in construction related matters including contract negotiation and drafting, offering legal assistance during difficult projects and handling claims should they arise.
Mr. Gumaer also handles a variety of complex and catastrophic claims including products liability, toxic tort, coverage matters, commercial litigation and wrongful death claims.
He is admitted to practice before all New York State courts and all New York U.S. District Courts as well as the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the Onondaga County and New York State bar associations.
In 2012, Mr. Gumaer was selected as a Super Lawyer in the field of Professional Liability Defense by the magazine Super Lawyers, a distinction based on peer recognition and professional achievement.
Mr. Gumaer is active in Sugarman's accredited program as a continuing education provider of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He has been a speaker at the national "Invited Attorneys Meeting" for design professionals and their counsel and frequently leads seminars for design professionals relating to risk management, contract review and drafting and project management from a legal perspective.
Mr. Gumaer is a graduate of Colgate University (B.S. Economics, with honors) and Boston University School of Law.
